In the brush drawing, I’m imagining Wonder Woman’s frumpier, older cousin. I always think that these glamourous types have relatives who are less impressive, and jealous of them.

This is Cyrano de Bergerac. In one of his works, he built himself a pair of wings, and flew to the moon. Gotta love that Cyrano!

Then, just a bunch of random colour sketches of things on the street. I’m happy with these, because I kept the contrast up. Not easy!

Recently painted a lot of dudes, or guys, or what have you. Faces seem to work better if I leave more white in them, but as usual, it’s all experimentation. The more I work on things, the better stuff gets. But if I go away from it, I seem to lose the touch, and have to paint a few bad things to get up to speed. Still generally fun.

I seem to be getting more contrasts in, which is good, but staying loose.

But the picture below is a little insane. Sort of just added things as I went along. Astronauts! Dogs! A hammer! Doesn’t mean anything, but I think I’ll work on keeping the colours a bit more rational. It’s still fun, or maybe I’m just in a mellower mood today.

Painted a lot of things. Haven’t posted many yet. Maybe I’ll try something new and post only GOOD drawings. That would be a switch.

I’ve scanned a lot of pictures I’ve been painting the last while, and am going to put them up on the blog step by step, maybe. That’s so I can post stuff every day! Or, I might put them up all at once. Who knows?

Reading, and inspired by the comic Beasts of Burden, by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. Working on some animal stories, I promise! Okay, you’ve heard that before. Drawing pug dogs is fun. Not sure about the dogs themselves. One once got loose in this apartment when I left the door open.

Discombobulated the cats. I had to chase the dog and pick it up, which was funny, because he was one of these solid animals, much heavier than he seems at first. Like a squirmy pig more than the usual highly portable cat. Still, I like drawing them, and seeing them on the street.

After not posting much, for a while, I’ve been doing a flurry of painting. Seems I need to go through a number of indifferent things to “ramp up” to something better. Anyhow, I’m happier with what’s going on here. Painting lots of cats for this cat strip I’m trying to finish. Wish it felt easier, but it’s part of the process.

The drawings look more realistic when copied from photographs. My problem is, it’s boring to draw from photographs. I’m painting shapes rather than trying to think around an object.

Oh, I just remembered. Drew some sketches on the metro the other day. These to me are the best faces. I don’t know they have a kind of beautiful sadness you don’t see in photos. People in their own little worlds, trying to keep to themselves. Headed to who knows where.

Unfortunately, the cars are old, and sections of the track are bumpy. Funny to see everyone still reading, listening to players, but bumping up and down with those straight faces. Hard to draw, however. That’s what happened to the face on the bottom.

This is a comic I drew in about 10 minutes at the last Comic Jam. Then it took me about 4 days to decide what colours to put in. Enjoy!
