These are simple, but done with different techniques and programs. Up above is purely digital, drawn and painted in Photoshop.

The guy below was drawn in Adobe Illustrator according to a pencil sketch, then coloured in Photoshop. I’m happy with the ink lines I’m able to create, and they’re fast to do, too.

This strange woman was painted in black wash on paper, then coloured in Photoshop. Nifty! I want to be able to blend the colours more.

Still, all things considered, they look good to me, and my pics will continue to get only better.

It’s fun blogging at quarter to six in the morning. Had nothing better to do, but this was queued up, and ready to go. I think it’s more fun (but more work) telling stories with these people, because they’re all about stories.

However, they just appear as I draw/paint them. I don’t sit down saying I’m going to paint a picture of a couple of guys pointing, with a ghost chick in the background. It sort of evolves.

This is fun. Call it part of my Blue Period. Easy to add little colours here and there, and underneath. Unlike many people I know, I like painting and drawing machines, though don’t have a fondness for the ruler. I fancy this gives them more personality. I like objects with personality, and strive to put that into my drawings.

I’m not relating to Sundays much. Thought I’d get some time off, but I’ve got to prepare for a meeting and some work. Still, I found time to sketch these things. Small cat, and some dame. I don’t call them watercolours because they involve the brush pen, and aren’t pure. I like modelling things in pure form, and not adding lines. But lines are essential, sometimes.

Anyhow, this is the thin crinkly paper, that can’t take much paint. Hope they’re all right.

Saw this pose on a poster for a play the other day, and drew my memory of it.

The usual guys blankly staring, cats, and below, cute chicks. Just because I go out to events doesn’t mean I’m not a strange recluse. It just means there are a lot of events happening.

But the video stuff is fun. Takes a long time to upload. My next challenge there is finding music I can use legally, or at least with not bothering too many people….

That’s my thing at the moment. This is a link to some of my research material. One of those brilliant ideas I hope works, though I wish I had it earlier. We’ll see how it goes. Tough doing creepy monstrous stuff when you’re mainly used to cute and quirky. But always good to expand one’s horizons. Here’s a row of Zombieish characters:

An old-fashioned “War of the Worlds” tripod, and a farmer’s cart. Why? I have no idea.

The last Thursday in May means the Monthly Montreal Comic Jam. I actually worked on some pages of comics, but it’s more of a get-together for local artists, to share and show off, and also collaborate on things.

I got my bud Rick Gagnon to colour this picture of mine above, which turned out swell. He also inked over my pencillings for the character below:

Another of my pals works at the studio that produces the cartoon Arthur. All the animation is done with computer now, but there were boxes of old-school cels and backgrounds nobody was using, so we got these as gifts:

It was done in transparent inks, against a background of yellow underpainting to make the greens show up better.

I like the idea of yellow under, because it gives the picture warmness and its own light. I tired the same technique in a sketch I did of a couple of personalities who died this weekend:
