Haven’t had all that much time, so I’m putting up some odds and ends I’ve drawn.
The aging guy heads were copied, more or less, from the book Drawing People, by Barbara Bradley.
Flying things, and a nerdy kid.
An old-fashioned “War of the Worlds” tripod, and a farmer’s cart. Why? I have no idea.
For some reason, these take about as long as the black and white ones! Going to try and do more. They’ll probably make more sense, get more relaxed as I go along. I’ve got a pile of stories. Just haven’t drawn (or painted) them, yet. This one come out of my head as I was drawing it. Still, it was inspired by the cowboy things the jam people were doing, and which I’ve put into a previous post.
Pencil drawings, coloured and otherwise. The title of the post is the title of one of those great old Andy Loomis art technique books. But one I don’t have.
After missing a couple of nights, I finally made it to the monthly Montreal Comic Jam. Took pictures, but now I’m lazy, and put them into a slide show. You can actually click on photos as they pass by above to read info about who’s in them, etc.
Enthused about watercolour, I brought my set of paints, forked bamboo brushes and grubby bottle of water, and badgered people to do a watercolour jam. I left them alone, and they performed a stellar job:

The scrawl in the upper corner is the title of a science fiction anthology from Tor Books Michael has a story in. Pretty cool, but I can’t find it on the web, so perhaps it hasn’t been released yet. More on this when I know.
Was pretty down today, but doing this cheered me up. Just left blank bubbles and squares, then filled them in with whatever. Mainly according to songs I was listening to on the shuffle.
Just another watercolour thing to keep the blog rolling along. At least I did some useful work today! Gotta feed the cats.
Weird painting, as usual. But I learned a lot from doing this!
Still just drawing random things. Wish I were in a better mood. I added a halo to that wrestler you’ve already seen, and painted a ballet dancer. She’s actually outlined with a dip pen, which is all right.
Also drawn with a dip pen is the cowboy below. Should be working on something other than just scrap paper.
And drew some Daisy Maes, standing on top of each other. You can never go wrong with Daisy Mae.

I’ve discovered tumblr, which at the moment is where I’m putting a lot of ranting and rambling I’d like to get out of my system. This is good, because it makes me feel more productive in general. No reason I can’t do that here, however. But we’ll see how it goes. I like keeping things separate, for some reason. We’ll see how it works.
Meanwhile, here is a painting I was complaining about over there. Masterpiece, or piece o’ crap? –
…in old Montreal. Sketched this reader: a very proper older lady, hair slightly blown by the wind. A hoard of daycare kids thundered by several times in a running exercise, and she never looked up, or moved at all.
Below, it’s the terra-cotta pencil. I’m getting more interested in backgrounds to these kinds of things. But I find them more successful when there’s a story, or attitude to the character that I can express. Rather than just trying to suggest physiognomy.
That’s what the girl jumping rope said in an R. Crumb funny, so I thought I could use it here. Tough thinking up titles for these things, since they’re mainly random collections of drawings. I’m cool with that, though.
Still doing female figures. Above is one copied from that book. Drawing People. My artist friend didn’t like the book, because of the artist’s style. But I found it packed full of good information, and am not trying to copy a style. Just improve my drawing, which this is doing.
Also doing faces. The guy on the left was very drunk and annoying in this park I was sitting in. But later, I tried to be more sympathetic. He probably doesn’t get a lot of love in his life.
Just having some fun on the computer with this lady I drew and coloured.
Should do her reflection in the window!
I don’t know. Fish are fun to paint. So shiny and silvery. Blues and greens work nicely.
I’m drawing tons of female figures for a job. These are the ones that don’t quite fit the bill. Still fun. I get better at these things with every job, which is great. Next one should be drawing portraits, or something else difficult.
