I wanted to share a family heirloom, a roll of gummed paper packing tape from my Great Grandfather’s General Store in Hardisty, Alberta. It dates from about the depression (not the current one, I mean about 1932-33), and is slightly stuck together from the gum, but I’ve unrolled a little as you see.

Nice phone numbers, back then!

Read about my family history, and Hardisty Alberta on my website here.

Neat stuff! I love the telephone number. When you think about it, remember when we had only 7 without the area code?

Hello, this is interesting. My grandmother’s maiden name was Myrtle Ruttan. I don’t know much about my father’s family because my dad died when I was 12. I know my mom was born and grew up on a farm at Hardisty so I m pretty sure I’m related to the Hardisty Ruttans.

I notice this post is 8 years old but I’m writing in case you still monitor it.

That’s great. There’s lots of Ruttan info on the Ruttan family history group on Facebook.

I descend from Emma Myrtle’s younger brother Charles Hamilton Scott Ruttan; married Catherine Carscallon Abbott.

If you are on FindAGrave you can find all of the siblings except William Stuart and the youngest Ellen, linked to their named parents as below:
William Harvey Shearer Ruttan: ID 238449071; and
    Sarah Melissas Cadman: Id 22878514

I have contacted the Contributor for the Memorial of William Stuart but have not heard back as of yet. I have no information on Ellen past the 1901 census. I do have info on the rest of the family.

I would love to get in touch with you. If you sent me a message through FindAGrave I will respond; or directly to my email listed below.

“dox” is a shortened nickname (unortho (dox) ) of a character in a novel; not what some others would think.
