Blondes

By in color, digital

I’m probably being very boring banging on about digital painting. The drawing just isn’t quite there when I draw things right on the computer rather than scanning-in drawings done in pencil and then coloured here. But I’ve been working hard on these sorts of things, so I may as well share them. Any opinions or […]

Hoodie Guy

By in digital, paintings, sketches

This is actually all digital, drawn with this set of brushes here. I’ve been doing a lot of digital drawing, but have been nervous about putting it up. Much harder to draw digitally, I think, because of all the planning you need to do. I can draw on paper with pencils and watercolours, and some […]

Remember the Days In the Old Schoolyard

By in color, montreal, paintings, ruttan's place, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

Kids in the schoolyard facing my balcony are playing in the leaves. I couldn’t resist sketching them. They move too fast, so this is mainly imagination, but I hope I’ve captured a hint of the colours and fun.

Spaceships for Beginners

By in digital, paintings

I painted some spaceships today, according to this guy’s instructions. May not do it again this way, but I learned a few things.

Grumpy Writer

By in digital, men, pencil, Portraits, sketches

And a lazy digital treatment. I’m learning more tricks, but am finding I get my best results when starting with a pencil drawing and scanning it in. I can draw with the stylus, but it takes a lot more time. The thing really doesn’t like obeying what your hand wants it to do. Maybe if […]

In the sketchbook.

By in black and white, color, paintings, pencil, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, women

My sketchbook is a bit like my written journal. I sit down with it, with no idea of what I’m about to write (or draw). Kind of therapy, I suppose, or like practicing scales if you were playing the piano. The bottom corner is a gentleman I saw walking by on the street. Above was […]

Space Flyer

By in color, digital, sketches, women

Since the drawings I did for “Rank the Prank” are part of the broadcast, and give away surprises in the show, I’m beavering away at creating similar things which show off how I’ve advanced with the digital painting thing. This is always hard because I’m never certain about my work. Also, it’s been a bit […]

Off-Model George Jetson

By in ballpoint pen, black and white, sketches

Bernie Mireault and his Jetsonian efforts inspired me to make a doodle of George Jetson, unencumbered by reference to the real thing.

Dig Pigs

By in ballpoint pen, comics, montreal, watercolor, watercolour

This morning I was annoyed at all the construction noise outside, so drawing this felt like a good way to get rid of my frustrations. The title “Dig Pigs” is from graffiti I saw on one of this city’s ubiquitous “ROAD CLOSED” signs. It made me laugh.
