Watercolour Graffiti

By in paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

I like the feeling of a painting taped to a stretching board. It feels solid, unlike the sketchbook paper. So, when I didn’t have to finish a stretched painting I started, I just used it as a place to practice things. The result reminds me of the local “free graffiti wall” east of here on […]

Morning Faces, and More

By in cats, color, Nora the cat, sketches, watercolour, women

Sometimes I don’t trust the scanner to catch all the little subtleties in light watercolour tones. The colours on the palette look like little abstract comic panels.

Warm Day Sketches

By in color, montreal, ruttan's place, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

Haven’t been able to write that much, lately. I’ve also got sketches and words from the Blue Met literary fest last weekend, but haven’t organised them. Overcome as I am by end-of-month nerves. Youtube Guys

By in color, heads, men, paintings, watercolor, watercolour

Painted these guys when I was up late last night, watching Youtube. Very tired now, but I worked hard today and solved some problems. So, I’m happy. I don’t think the cats are happy, but maybe they’ll manage.

Pair o’ Cats

By in cats, color, paintings, watercolour

I’m calling this a “warm-up,” since I’m really working on a much bigger job. Still, this taught me some things, and finishing it freed up a watercolour board.

Spring-like Sketches

By in color, montreal, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

It was actually possible, yesterday, to sit on the balcony and draw this little postal van, illegally parked across the street. The above is a tiny little thing, but the colours are pretty.

Rue Notre Dame

By in montreal, watercolor, watercolour

At least I think that’s where it is. I didn’t write down the name of the street when I snapped the photo I painted this from.

Further Landscapes

By in color, digital, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

In pure watercolours, and digital. These are more like blots. But I promise to pay attention to lighting, and colour, and make them more illusionistic.

Landscapes

By in color, Coloured Pencils, paintings, sketches, watercolour

I drew 4 tiny landscapes with watercolour pencils, basically as quickly as I could, without thinking about them. This I call the “I can do nothing wrong” style of painting, because I tell myself that as I do it.
