It’s The Little Book Again!
By Jack Ruttan in cats, men, sketches, womenMore sketches from the little black hardcover book. I like that little book. The paper’s nice (can take a wash), and it’s small and scans reasonably well, if I don’t draw too close to the binding. Never got into Molesquines, and that sort of thing. (Not even sure how to pronounce that!) But I do […]
Skaters and Athletic types
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenWatching some Olympics, so drawing these types. Noting that I’m drawing skaters, but leaving out skates. This is kind of an R. Crumb-like girl below. Sorry. That was supposed to be a cute gopher in the background, but I smeared its eyes before they dried, and now he becomes a zombie gopher. I’m including this […]

And More from Yesterday…
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenI was drawing in that little book. Hence, things take less time to do. I’ll have to think about the implications of that. Not sure what the black squiggle means. I had intended it as a design element, to balance things. This morning it looks ominous.

…And Another…
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, watercolour, womenEveryone’s been looking to the left, this time. Sometimes that seems easier. I’d also like to draw some things that have more of a story behind them, so they’re just not some anonymous face looking … to the left, for instance.

Dream, and other Figures
By Jack Ruttan in dogs, sketches, womenI saw these kids the other night, in a dream. I think their Uncle is Orson Welles. Still working on figures. A pensive Orc, and Pug Dog: Hmmm. Maybe a pug dog-something else cross. The head is the wrong shape, muzzle too long and the ears should be lower down, for that true pug silliness.

Back into comics?
By Jack Ruttan in cats, horses, men, sketches, womenYesterday’s comic was my trying to do that. Get into a working routine that doesn’t take me too long (nobody’s paying for those pages yet! But they’re a lot of effort), and see what works. That means finding what I’d like to do, and in what style. Also, as I usually do with the sketches […]

Self-Therapy Sketches!
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenAwful day yesterday, but got better. Did some drawing late at night with the Staedtler coloured ballpoints. That helped.

January Montreal Comic Jam!
By Jack Ruttan in montreal, sketches, women…Was better attended than you would think, considering the icy weather. Still, stacks of comics have been drawn, but people (yours truly included) haven’t gotten it together to scan them, or try to print them in a zine. I bet that that zine would have some sort of currency, since we’re a fixture at L’Escalier […]

New Sketches
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, womenAlways sketching: busy hands. I added her dress pattern via photoshop. Yay, C’boys! One of them is vaguely Francis Ford Coppola, director of the Godfather films:

Off Model?
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenStill sketching. Inspired by McCabe & Mrs. Miller. I love the ragged, cheap, but beautiful aesthetic in the film. [look out: spoilers ahoy!] The director said it might have made more money if the Warren Beatty character had been rescued by Julie Christie in the end. But the couple hardly got together at all over […]
