Blue Period

By in men, paintings, watercolour, women

Happy New Year’s, all three of you visiting this blog! It’s business as usual at Utopia Moment. I’m still playing with my Wacom Intuos, but I also enjoy the old school tools. These are a pile of faces, in gloomy watercolours. I’m very happy that my local art store has returned to stocking this paper […]

New Year’s Eve

By in men, watercolour

Haven’t blogged much recently. Mainly because I’ve been busy, and drawing little bits and pieces of things as I learn my new tool, the Wacom Intuous Tablet. But there are some exciting projects happening in the new year, and I hope lots of interesting stuff to draw and put up. This is a watercolour man […]

Aviator

By in sketches, watercolour

This feels slightly less demented than most of my offerings, but I’m probably kidding myself. All the same, I feel more control of my medium and the effects it creates, and also my drawing. Hooray!

F-F-f-faces!

By in cats, men, sketches, watercolour, women

Still painting random faces, from DVDs, and my squirming imagination. Kind of enjoying it at the moment. Some bonus kitty-cats as well.

Seem to spend a lot of time there. Here are some colour things:

Colour Cats and Such

By in cats, men, sketches, watercolour, women

I’m doing comic colouring in Photoshop. Shouldn’t be so difficult, but I’m thinking of it a lot. Then a little watercolour.

Arrr…. Ulllg….

By in men, sketches, watercolour

This guy is vaguely based on John Cusack from the movie “Say Anything,” but I was too lazy to draw a portrait. So he becomes “random guy,” because it’s too cold to go out on the balcony and draw people.

Hard and Soft Edges

By in sketches, watercolour, women

I dislike ink outlines, but am working on hard and soft edges in drawings. Leaving the middles alone in this case, or giving them a gentle wash.

Kid Pushing Traffic Marker

By in watercolour

This kid was pushing down traffic markers the other day. So I drew him. If you see this kid around your neighbourhood, tell him to leave the traffic markers alone.

Fast and Slow Watercolours

By in men, sketches, watercolour, women

One of these was painted very quickly, the other very slowly. Which is which? Do you care?

Pen and Ink Cats, etc.

By in cats, men, sketches, watercolour, women

Mr. Boggedy only WISHES he could catch rats! It’s a pain thinking up clever titles for these posts of sketches, so I’m just going for the search engines! Here’s my old pal, Howard Shore (with a random DVD lady): Bonus! A woman pointing! Is she actually wearing anything, or am I just lazy? Could have […]

Drawings of Thugs and Women

By in men, sketches, watercolour, women

Sorry, they’re not together. Some other time! The guy here is my trying to recapture impressions of this character I saw on the street, who could have been a thug ordered by Central Casting. Don’t think I caught the exact look of malice on his face which unsettled me, though! Women in pencil, and colour:

A Utopian Moment

By in men, sketches, watercolour, women

Somebody asked me where the name “Utopia Moment” came from. It’s something I made up, when I was in a Brian Eno type of mood (he likes to give enigmatic titles to his pieces). I think it refers to the instant when everything feels perfect; but it’s so fleeting it’s hard to grab onto and […]
