I’m pretty happy with this beauty, and am slowly figuring out brushes in photoshop. Hard to set the ones I like. This took a lot of time, but then again so did the acrylic pictures I used to paint on matte board when I was in High school. Still have one of those.

Blue Period
By Jack Ruttan in men, paintings, watercolour, womenHappy New Year’s, all three of you visiting this blog! It’s business as usual at Utopia Moment. I’m still playing with my Wacom Intuos, but I also enjoy the old school tools. These are a pile of faces, in gloomy watercolours. I’m very happy that my local art store has returned to stocking this paper […]

New Toy
By Jack Ruttan in men, womenSorry for the absence, but I’ve been playing with a new toy. A Wacom Intuous 4 stylus. Still working with it. I’ve used a Bamboo Pen stylus for a while, but though i liked it, the lines were jiggly and I couldn’t really draw with it the way I could with pencils, pens and brushes. […]

By Jack Ruttan in sketches, womenDrawing things from DVDs. Freezing it this time, rather than just going on impressions as the movie plays. A lot of work filling things in with pencil! This and the below are based on Sharon Stone from the beginning of Total Recall. And some random, imaginary profiles with my fine-line roller pen: Good night, all!

Out of My Head….
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, womenThat’s where these drawings are from. When winter sets in it’s less practicable to draw things out on the street. So I sit around looking at books, watching DVDs, also drawing anything that tickles my fancy. Hate drawing directly from photographs, but those give you different ideas, and also keeps one closer to reality. So […]

A Kelpie, a Vampire; other things.
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, womenRoller Pen Drawings
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, womenCould call these “Pen and Ink,” but that seems too grand. The titles become dull also, because of the idea of putting something plainly descriptive in so search engines can find them.

Hard and Soft Edges
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, watercolour, womenI dislike ink outlines, but am working on hard and soft edges in drawings. Leaving the middles alone in this case, or giving them a gentle wash.

Fast and Slow Watercolours
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenOne of these was painted very quickly, the other very slowly. Which is which? Do you care?
