While walking through the park, had to force myself to sit down and paint this. Obviously I could have scooched over so the lamp-post wasn’t in front of the fountain. But hey, I was sitting there. The girl in front, playing with her puppy was super-charming.

Random Scribbles and Splashes
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenStill just drawing random things. Wish I were in a better mood. I added a halo to that wrestler you’ve already seen, and painted a ballet dancer. She’s actually outlined with a dip pen, which is all right. Also drawn with a dip pen is the cowboy below. Should be working on something other than […]

Tiny Pic-tures
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenNothing too ambitious here. Just “tiny pic-tures,” as my sister used to disparagingly call them. I don’t have that much in mind while drawing them. More a form of relaxation.

A Series of Bizarre Images
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenDogwalkers of the world. I love you all! A pair of English comic book writers: It’s Devil Girl! And R. Crumb! A pair of heads!

Faces, added while on the balcony
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenSitting here with my cat on a Montreal afternoon in August, putting up some pictures. I’m doing more writing on my Tumblr blog. This one is for sketches, I think. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

New Art, and Tumblr
By Jack Ruttan in cats, men, sketches, watercolour, womenI’ve discovered tumblr, which at the moment is where I’m putting a lot of ranting and rambling I’d like to get out of my system. This is good, because it makes me feel more productive in general. No reason I can’t do that here, however. But we’ll see how it goes. I like keeping things […]

Trying to Keep it Together
By Jack Ruttan in dogs, sketches, womenA page of pen and brush drawings: I’ve set up a tumblr blog. http://jackruttan.tumblr.com Don’t know why I did that, but I want to make it a little less formal than this blog. Kind of like an expanded twitter. I’d better set things up so they all intersect!

Finicky Darn Watercolours
By Jack Ruttan in cats, menGosh, watercolours are so tough! All those many things to control. And things can go wrong so easily. You need skill, and also, I’m finding out, strong confidence to carry it off. Good abilities to practice. I’m obviously not the super-smooth kind of artist like Jim Woodring or Vargas, but it’s fun to work on […]
Out the Other Day…
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, watercolour, women…in old Montreal. Sketched this reader: a very proper older lady, hair slightly blown by the wind. A hoard of daycare kids thundered by several times in a running exercise, and she never looked up, or moved at all. Below, it’s the terra-cotta pencil. I’m getting more interested in backgrounds to these kinds of things. […]

More Pork Sausages, Mom!
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenThat’s what the girl jumping rope said in an R. Crumb funny, so I thought I could use it here. Tough thinking up titles for these things, since they’re mainly random collections of drawings. I’m cool with that, though. Still doing female figures. Above is one copied from that book. Drawing People. My artist friend […]
Guitar Man
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketchesNot much to say today. Trying to do good and useful things. But it’s hot. Would rather be wandering around outdoors.
