Neon Gel Pens

By in ballpoint pen, color, paintings, pencil, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

Over the past couple of summers, a depanneur (convenience store, for you non-Montrealers) had a jar of gel pens for sale. When I was buying beer or cat food, if I was feeling flush, I’d pick one up. They are fun to play with, and I had a set of kid’s fluorescent paints to […]

The Wind in the Willows

By in ballpoint pen, Book Reviews, color

I’m finishing off The Wind in the Willows. Very curious book. I remember it being read to me in class when I was tiny, and at that age I didn’t always get all of what was being read or shown to me. Such as when I was watching the movie Mary Poppins, which I loved. […]

Magical Neon

By in ballpoint pen, color, pen and ink, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

This is a page I drew this summer with the help of magical neon gel pens I collected at the depanneur over the weeks, at a dollar a pop. I still haven’t figured out how to incorporate them into serious drawings (if that’s what I do), or know if they are archival quality.

Off-Model George Jetson

By in ballpoint pen, black and white, sketches

Bernie Mireault and his Jetsonian efforts inspired me to make a doodle of George Jetson, unencumbered by reference to the real thing.

Dig Pigs

By in ballpoint pen, comics, montreal, watercolor, watercolour

This morning I was annoyed at all the construction noise outside, so drawing this felt like a good way to get rid of my frustrations. The title “Dig Pigs” is from graffiti I saw on one of this city’s ubiquitous “ROAD CLOSED” signs. It made me laugh.

Goths

By in ballpoint pen, black and white, brush pen, heads, pen and ink, sketches

Some strange types, on a loose sheet of typing paper. Do they even call it “typing paper,” now? Copy paper, I guess. I still like drawing on it with pens.

Further Sketchbookery.

By in ballpoint pen, black and white, color, pen and ink, pencil, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

I need to find a better title for these sorts of posts, because the headings are getting a little repetitive. Anyhow, I bought a new sketchbook, and here are some things I’ve been drawing in it, recently. Faces, science-fictiony things like monsters and spaceships. I’ve been working on work a lot, and can’t show those […]

“FOOT”

By in ballpoint pen, black and white, pen and ink, sketches

This is a little sketch I drew for my friend, on a scrap of scratch paper. She thought I was trying to spell the word “FOOT” with the background handrails, and the bike wheels. But this is just a coincidence.

Tiny Pict-chas

By in ballpoint pen, cats, color, dogs, heads, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour

More from the sketchbook. “Tiny pict-chas,” as my sis used to refer to them, when she wanted to get my goat. I enjoy the line made when the black roller pen gets wet, and mixes a little with the colour.
