It’s a new sketchbook! These things are expensive. I’m thinking I should be like Chester Brown, and not worry about my legacy. Because I’ll be gone, and then people can fight over the old books, if they want to….

By Jack Ruttan in ballpoint pen, color, digital, Gouache, heads, paintings, pen and ink, pencil, Portraits, self-promotion, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenInstead of doing important drawings for which there is a firm deadline, I watched politics on my big TV instead. Lots of long speeches. I liked Chrystia Freeland’s face, so I drew that in my Dollarama sketchbook, with my amazing Winsor and Newton Series 150 Chinese brush. I don’t know if it’s actually a Chinese […]
Red Gothic Guy in Gouache
By Jack Ruttan in Gouache, heads, men, paintings, ruttan's place, sketches, watercolourI’m happy that this is posting, because I’m not too thrilled with my digital painting program at the moment. Maybe it’s calmed down now, and recognizes me. I also put my thumb drive in the pocket of my fuzzy sweater, because I wanted to print something at the library. But the library printer only prints […]
Anne Hathaway
By Jack Ruttan in black and white, Gouache, heads, paintings, Portraits, self-promotion, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenThis is supposed to be Anne Hathaway from The Devil Wears Prada. It looks a little like her….
Watercolour Faces
By Jack Ruttan in color, Gouache, heads, Jack's House of Cats, men, montreal, paintings, Portraits, self-promotion, sketches, watercolourI’m just putting this up to see how big the graphic is…. Not too impressive, eh? It’s relaxing sitting on the front balcony doodling faces and the passing scene outside. People go by, things go by, as James Agee put it… Watercolour takes a lot of work to get back to one’s level. Haven’t sold […]
Old Me
By Jack Ruttan in Gouache, heads, men, self-promotion, sketchesOld old self-portrait. Mid 2000’s, I think.
Eastern
By Jack Ruttan in color, Gouache, heads, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolourI really hope that the little art shop in Chinatown near Clarke Street has survived. I like independent shops more than the big chains. Found cool stuff there, such as this book, and that brush. This is actually a face I did years ago, in black gouache, and just added colour to, today.
Blatant Sketchbookery
By Jack Ruttan in cats, color, Coloured Pencils, Gouache, Jack's House of Cats, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolourFor some reason I’m back into the blog. I don’t think anyone goes here, and the “Blogoshphere” has become a little like one of those abandoned theme parks adventurers like to seek out. Anyhow, I’m baaaaaakk. Not posting as much as I used to, just cool stuff out of the sketchbooks, which are taking too […]
Pages from One of My Sketchbooks.
By Jack Ruttan in black and white, cats, color, Coloured Pencils, Gouache, sketches, watercolourThere’s a lot that I draw that I don’t put up. Trying to remedy that a bit. It’s not all brilliance, but here it is. Pencil, coloured pencil, Gouache. I think that’s covered it, technique-wise.
Creepy Politicians
By Jack Ruttan in ballpoint pen, Gouache, men, paintingsSome creepy American politicians I drew from the New York Times, in Gouache and ballpoint pen.
Short Pencil
By Jack Ruttan in Art Criticism, color, Gouache, ruttan's place, sketches, watercolor, watercolourI don’t actually prefer a short pencil, I just get a little hysterical when the lead breaks off inside the pencil when I’m trying to sharpen it. I hate that.
Nora Again
By Jack Ruttan in cats, Gouache, Nora the cat, sketches, watercolourA little gouache painting of Nora. Being quiet for a change.
