I’m behind on things, also wasting time on facebook. Still drawing, but not blogging as much as I might. Well, here are some things. First of all, I’m messing around with the “Gaussian Blur” and figuring out what it takes to paint things over a loose pencil drawing in photoshop: It’s from a tacky source […]

Watercolour Baby and Other Things.
By Jack Ruttan in men, paintings, sketches, watercolourActually painted a portrait of somebody’s baby the other week. Looked nothing like this one, who was just practice for baby paintings. Can’t show the portrait, because it hasn’t been given to the recipient yet. Then there’s this freaky smiling guy, again rendered in good old-fashioned watercolour.

Pile of Paintings
By Jack Ruttan in men, paintings, sketches, watercolour, womenThese are simple, but done with different techniques and programs. Up above is purely digital, drawn and painted in Photoshop. The guy below was drawn in Adobe Illustrator according to a pencil sketch, then coloured in Photoshop. I’m happy with the ink lines I’m able to create, and they’re fast to do, too. This strange […]

Passel of Drawings
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenI sketch a lot more than I put up here. Thought it was time for some of those. Mainly out of my head, while watching DVDs, or live, in some cases. Those always make the best poses.

Blue Period
By Jack Ruttan in men, paintings, watercolour, womenHappy New Year’s, all three of you visiting this blog! It’s business as usual at Utopia Moment. I’m still playing with my Wacom Intuos, but I also enjoy the old school tools. These are a pile of faces, in gloomy watercolours. I’m very happy that my local art store has returned to stocking this paper […]

New Year’s Eve
By Jack Ruttan in men, watercolourHaven’t blogged much recently. Mainly because I’ve been busy, and drawing little bits and pieces of things as I learn my new tool, the Wacom Intuous Tablet. But there are some exciting projects happening in the new year, and I hope lots of interesting stuff to draw and put up. This is a watercolour man […]

New Toy
By Jack Ruttan in men, womenSorry for the absence, but I’ve been playing with a new toy. A Wacom Intuous 4 stylus. Still working with it. I’ve used a Bamboo Pen stylus for a while, but though i liked it, the lines were jiggly and I couldn’t really draw with it the way I could with pencils, pens and brushes. […]
F-F-f-faces!
By Jack Ruttan in cats, men, sketches, watercolour, womenStill painting random faces, from DVDs, and my squirming imagination. Kind of enjoying it at the moment. Some bonus kitty-cats as well.

What’s New in the Sketchbook?
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, watercolour, womenOut of My Head….
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, womenThat’s where these drawings are from. When winter sets in it’s less practicable to draw things out on the street. So I sit around looking at books, watching DVDs, also drawing anything that tickles my fancy. Hate drawing directly from photographs, but those give you different ideas, and also keeps one closer to reality. So […]

A Kelpie, a Vampire; other things.
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketches, womenComic Colour and Nasty Horsemen
By Jack Ruttan in horses, men, sketchesI’ve finally learned a comic colouring technique that’s relatively fast, and that I’m happy with. Check this series of youtube videos from the Overground Comic Company, if you want to find out more. Meanwhile, I’ve been drawing a stack of things. Here are a couple of angry guys on horses a la Frank Frazetta for […]
