I’m Still Figuring this Digital Thing Out!

By in black and white, color, digital, men, paintings, pencil, sketches, women

It will be nice when I can reliably produce images i’m happy with. Anyhow, it’s fun to play with, if a little time-consuming. I’m not a portrait type (that’s why I’m working on these!), but the machine has tools (particularly Photoshop’s “Liquefy”) which allows you to make little adjustments to a picture which would otherwise […]

Relaxing

By in cats, digital, men, paintings

A couple of quick digital paintings I did on my little computer (an Asus EEE subnotebook) while chatting with a friend. This is good, because it means I’m generally getting more relaxed with it! Still so much to learn. Check this page, for instance. I should post most of my useful digital painting training links, […]

Still Amblin’ Down the Digital Path….

By in digital, paintings, women

I think these are looking better. (and now I’ve updated it to balance the colours a little, according to some things I’ve learned. There are so many tools with Photoshop. Interesting but complex.)

Car, in place, with Guy

Reasonably happy with this. I’m getting control of my brushes, and all the little switches. I like the impressionistic roughness, and it didn’t even take me all that long.

Car, Car C-A-R

By in digital, paintings

Something I used to chant as a little one, for whatever reason. Painted this to go into the background of another picture, but spent so much time on it (learned a lot, however), that I decided to clip it out and blow it up. I seem to be having better luck with inorganic objects than […]

Paper or Pixels?

By in digital, men, paintings, watercolour, women

One thing my recent adventures in digital painting have done, they’ve made my painting in watercolour seem absolutely easy and refreshing by comparision. Still it’s a great challenge, and I’ve learned plenty in the last little while. As I relax and practice, things will get easier, and the people more natural. I’m not a quick […]

Sketch Blogging Again

By in digital, paintings, pen and ink

Things I’ve doing, and neglecting to put up. Pen and ink while watching a biography of the late Jean Giraud (Moebius). (Now taken down, sorry!) Admire his work greatly, but the whole “genius” tone of the doc was hard to deal with. Still, these people are giants in their field, and it’s not as easy […]

Digital Watercolour

By in digital, paintings, watercolour

Blotchy, I know, but I’m happy because it’s a sort of successful digital watercolour. Zoe Piel explains the method, and the dozens of switches and settings you have to control. I’m not so good at that, having merely a 20th-century mind. But I managed to upgrade my “Creative Suite” and am learning all the new […]

Cat All Alone

By in cats, Nora the cat, paintings

I’ve got a new, slightly intimidating photoshop. Took a while to paint this, and it’s not exactly according to the tutorials I was watching, but interesting enough. For more Nora the cat, go here.

Watercolour Baby and Other Things.

By in men, paintings, sketches, watercolour

Actually painted a portrait of somebody’s baby the other week. Looked nothing like this one, who was just practice for baby paintings. Can’t show the portrait, because it hasn’t been given to the recipient yet. Then there’s this freaky smiling guy, again rendered in good old-fashioned watercolour.

Gotta pay more attention to landscapes and backgrounds. Also practicing with the “Pen Tool.”

Pile of Paintings

By in men, paintings, sketches, watercolour, women

These are simple, but done with different techniques and programs. Up above is purely digital, drawn and painted in Photoshop. The guy below was drawn in Adobe Illustrator according to a pencil sketch, then coloured in Photoshop. I’m happy with the ink lines I’m able to create, and they’re fast to do, too. This strange […]
