More coloured pen faces
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketchesThe scanner seems to like the coloured pen colours better than the more usually respectable watercolours I do. Except there’s not a good yellow in coloured pen ink. So, I used a yellow pencil.

Friendly Nazi
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketchesIt’s the friendly Nazis you have to watch out for. I’m wondering, if they invaded this town tomorrow, which people I know would be collaborators, would hide people under floorboards, or would be on the trains themselves? And what would I do? Afraid I’d just muddle through, presenting papers when asked. Probably get into trouble […]

Ball Point Pen Girl
By Jack Ruttan in sketchesThis is kind of cool, if deranged. Drawn with a set of colour ball point pens. Reminds me a little of Louis Wain’s cats, but I haven’t completely gone around the bend yet. Writing an odd script for a science fiction comic story. It would be nice to finish that, and actually do something of […]

Lhasa de Sela
By Jack Ruttan in montreal, sketches, watercolour, womenGoing to miss Lhasa de Sela. Not that I played her music a lot around here, but I always paused when La Lorona or one of her other haunting numbers came on the radio, or played at a friend’s place. Kind of a female version of Leonard Cohen, at least in the sultry romantic aspect […]

Back to Black and White
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, womenA little more cozy with the pen and ink. Also, the drawing here’s more relaxed. Too many little guidelines, and maybe a degree of uptightness harms the art. I don’t mind putting up stuff I’m not too thrilled with, because the blog is about process. And, sometimes, stuff I’m not happy with, someone else loves, […]

Glamour Girls
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, watercolour, womenStill just working on stuff. It’s not always perfect, but I like the process. Last night I was trying to paint glamour girls, or cheesecake. A popular topic in some quarters. Anyhow, Cyd Charisse from a photo is lacking life. She’s also lacking Gene Kelly from Singin’ In The Rain at the end of her […]

Mad About Drawing
By Jack Ruttan in men, sketches, watercolour, womenFor the title, thinking of Hokusai, who sometimes signed himself “Old Man Mad About Drawing.” When I drew this guy, I was watching Velvet Underground. My categories seem increasingly random. I’m not even sure what “Tags” are, so I don’t use them. I want to put in a Twitter and an RSS badge, but later. […]

wimmens
By Jack Ruttan in sketches, watercolour, womenDrawing and painting women today. Want to be a little more ambitious, but it’s tough in one’s old age. I will strive! The scanner’s all right for black and white, but really not good for colour. Expecially watercolour. Saw some new scanners for sale, might pick one up. I hate spending money, however.
