Dogwalkers of the world. I love you all! A pair of English comic book writers: It’s Devil Girl! And R. Crumb! A pair of heads!

Sitting here with my cat on a Montreal afternoon in August, putting up some pictures. I’m doing more writing on my Tumblr blog. This one is for sketches, I think. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

I’ve discovered tumblr, which at the moment is where I’m putting a lot of ranting and rambling I’d like to get out of my system. This is good, because it makes me feel more productive in general. No reason I can’t do that here, however. But we’ll see how it goes. I like keeping things […]

A page of pen and brush drawings: I’ve set up a tumblr blog. http://jackruttan.tumblr.com Don’t know why I did that, but I want to make it a little less formal than this blog. Kind of like an expanded twitter. I’d better set things up so they all intersect!

…in old Montreal. Sketched this reader: a very proper older lady, hair slightly blown by the wind. A hoard of daycare kids thundered by several times in a running exercise, and she never looked up, or moved at all. Below, it’s the terra-cotta pencil. I’m getting more interested in backgrounds to these kinds of things. […]

That’s what the girl jumping rope said in an R. Crumb funny, so I thought I could use it here. Tough thinking up titles for these things, since they’re mainly random collections of drawings. I’m cool with that, though. Still doing female figures. Above is one copied from that book. Drawing People. My artist friend […]
Just having some fun on the computer with this lady I drew and coloured. Should do her reflection in the window!

I don’t know. Fish are fun to paint. So shiny and silvery. Blues and greens work nicely. I’m drawing tons of female figures for a job. These are the ones that don’t quite fit the bill. Still fun. I get better at these things with every job, which is great. Next one should be drawing […]

Don’t think I’ve completely mastered the scanner. Have to look at all the options. In the meantime, here’re a bunch of things I’ve been drawing on scrap paper, while drawing stuff for another job I can’t show you at the moment. Mainly front balcony things.

I could go on about things, but I think I’m just going to put these up, and leave it at that. Of course, I’ll probably end up making little comments here and there. Above is a gang of sketchbook people, and a happy “War of the Worlds” tripod. I love the old 1910’s version of […]

‘Cause of my getting a new scanner, I’ve scanned all these pages, which, up until now, were hidden in my sketchbook. Now they’re here, for all of you to enjoy! A couple of the characters here are taken from Barbara Bradley’s book Drawing People: How to portray the clothed figure. Will have to talk about […]

I’m happy with my new scanner, especially the speed, and lack of power cords to tangle. There’s a lot of black and white stuff I’ve drawn that needs scanning, so here it is. Slovenly walking girls! Assorted dancers! Strange tall women! Guys in suits! I love them all!

The new scanner is faster, and captures more detail in my wonky watercolour pics. I still haven’t worked out all the kinks, because there are more options to deal with.
