May Day

By in dogs, sketches, women

Happy 1st of May, if that means something to you. These are just a couple more drawings, in one case gingerly approaching work that I’m doing.

Another day, more sketches. (AKA: What do I title this?)

By in cats, sketches, women

Drawing a lot lately, because I’ve got some illustrating gigs. These don’t exactly address the gigs, but they keep my hand in, and make drawing fun for me. Hence plenty of sketches. And I’ve got to put them up don’t I? Allegra, my late lamented small black cat, in graphic watercolour form. This is about […]

Reading Sketches

By in men, sketches, women

I used to go to more literary readings, and at one point had resolved to draw a portrait of every author I had witnessed read. That resolution went by the boards a while ago, but I still draw at readings when the mood takes me. This was from an event called the “Literary Luau” at […]

Burlesque Nights

By in sketches, women

Never thought I’d be writing that as a title. This is 2010, after all, not 1953 in Montreal with Gypsy Rose Lee and Lily Saint Cyr. Anyhow, the Blue Light Burlesque show wants me to do some drawings for them, and invited me to one of their shows tonight. Even though the MC inveighed against […]

Add New

By in men, sketches, watercolour, women

I’ve been in such a rut lately. Body seems to be failing: odd problems mainly due to stress. Jealous of other, better artists. But drawing these things makes me happy. Guess I’m not going to stop.

Bombastic Brush and Ink

By in horses, men, sketches, women

These brush drawings feel bombastic to me. A little quieter now that they’re scanned and put up. Still, that big brush line seems to “yell” more than the spidery pen. Harsh contrasts. The page below is from one of those big books, and it’s hard to cover all that area with the brush. Also, my […]

Insomniac Doodling

By in horses, sketches, women

I feel asleep earlier in the evening, so didn’t get to sleep when it was time for bed. Sinking in and out, I dreamed in that half awake way that a famous author was staying at my place. Unfortunately I forgot the name of his new book that he told me. Later, I made myself […]

This Always Happens…

By in cats, dogs, men, montreal, sketches, women

I’ve been in a bit of a mood lately, and not posting much. But still drawing things. Some of which are clever, or all right. I’ve actually got 3 comic strips on the go, which I’d like to finish. Those, of course, are all brilliant. We’ll see. In the meantime, because Easter weekend was warm, […]

Big Ugly Face

By in men, sketches

…that I drew last night when I couldn’t sleep. Don’t know if he helped, but he reflected my mood. I like how the drawings on the back of the paper show through.

Cat Violence

By in cats, ruttan's place, sketches

Cats are slime. Little cat this morning woke me up by knocking over books and a fan, as above. I’m sure she thought she was awesome. Below is a rendering of cat violence at its worst, chez Ruttan. The large cat, Mr. Boggedy, thwacks with his eyes closed, which is a little ineffectual. But he’s […]

Pugs, and Skeleton Dude

By in dogs, montreal, sketches, women

I haven’t been posting very much! Sorry. Haven’t been in the mood. I like this drawing of a woman and her pug, however. Something extra. I’ve been seeing these little cutouts of this skeleton dude and his toaster around the neighbourhood. Snapping them with my camera, before they get taken down, because these things don’t […]

Things I Saw

By in horses, men, sketches

Some of them in my mind. I did see a walking guy with a moustache, and some form of skyline. A Hercules plane flew over, but a James Bond jeep didn’t fall out. I saw Kate Beaton ponies on the web. Guess the figures will now be a valuable collectors item. That’s all for now.
