Some new sketches. I’m always drawing, but not been putting everything up, even though I used to do that.

Sketches
By Jack Ruttan in ballpoint pen, black and white, color, Coloured Pencils, men, pen and ink, sketches, watercolour, womenDigital Dallying.
By Jack Ruttan in color, digital, womenI’m reasonably pleased with how digital painting is progressing. Takes a different skill set to work with the stylus, and the program. Colour’s never been my strong suit, but I’ve learned things in watercolour to make images bright and interesting, and am learning the same thing here, I hope. All the tutorials on Deviantart.com and […]
Léon and Emma
By Jack Ruttan in color, heads, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenThis is Léon and Emma from MADAME BOVARY. Plus, a lot of attempts at watercolour “colour wheels,” and a Big Suit man.
Peggy and Stan
By Jack Ruttan in heads, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenDid a picture of Stan, who is Peggy’s hairy friend on the “Mad Men” TV show, when I realised I had space on the paper, and should probably do Peggy too. She was much harder to draw, and I spent most of the morning on that. Oh well. I like this paper.
It’s Mr. Boggedy!
By Jack Ruttan in cats, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenAnd a bonus cyclist!
Morning Faces, and More
By Jack Ruttan in cats, color, Nora the cat, sketches, watercolour, womenSometimes I don’t trust the scanner to catch all the little subtleties in light watercolour tones. The colours on the palette look like little abstract comic panels.
Faces from Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and elsewhere
By Jack Ruttan in brush pen, heads, paintings, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenDid these over the summer, but somehow forgot to put them up. They are mainly from Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, when I was sitting in the open air market doing portraits. They’re brush pen and watercolours, mostly.
Still Scrawling
By Jack Ruttan in color, Coloured Pencils, horses, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenI still draw a lot in my little books, but I haven’t been updating the blog every day like I used to. Maybe I’m just getting soft in my old age, or more choosy of what I put up. Here, I’m not being choosy, but this is a little of what I’ve been doing as […]
Digital Woman
By Jack Ruttan in color, digital, womenI thought the tear helped make the picture. Still not as fun for me as watercolour.
The 2014 Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec Garlic Festival is Coming
By Jack Ruttan in black and white, color, Coloured Pencils, ruttan's place, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenThis is my T-shirt design for the 2014 Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Quebec Garlic Festival. That event will happen next week, August 23, 2014. Finally saw the design in print last night at the get-together for volunteers. This happened at a pretty little place called the Coop du Grand Orme. Snaps of things are below. The band is […]
Computer-Painted Characters
By Jack Ruttan in color, digital, heads, men, paintings, womenMy computer-painted characters are quicker and more satisfying to draw. I had to reach back into my experience mixing acrylic paints to think of the right kinds of shadows. Still, I feel more confident that I can paint in a pleasant way any subject that occurs to me. Backgrounds and bodies soon to come.
Watercolour Pencils, and other Watercolour-y and Pencil-ly things.
By Jack Ruttan in black and white, color, Coloured Pencils, heads, men, montreal, sketches, watercolor, watercolour, womenA lot of little drawings here, so I’m trying a new feature on WordPress (new to me, anyhow). A “Gallery.” Enjoy! Actually, it’s kind of cool, having the random order. Wish there was a function for captions, however!
Morning Pencil Faces
By Jack Ruttan in black and white, men, pencil, sketches, womenIn kind of a funk at the moment because of beginning of the month, raining all day blues. Drawing silly faces helps sublimate some of that. These are scanned, and I may try to do something with them.
