Today’s Page

It’s awkward scanning things out of a ring-bound sketchbook. Pages are all “cockled” when it’s watercolour, and you can never get it to line up on the scanner. I also had to scan this page twice and “stitch” together, which also was a pain.
Not to mention fixing that tree, which had a lot of unintentional genitalia in the foliage. Maybe I didn’t get rid of it all….

New Pug Dog

Reading, and inspired by the comic Beasts of Burden, by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. Working on some animal stories, I promise! Okay, you’ve heard that before. Drawing pug dogs is fun. Not sure about the dogs themselves. One once got loose in this apartment when I left the door open.
Discombobulated the cats. I had to chase the dog and pick it up, which was funny, because he was one of these solid animals, much heavier than he seems at first. Like a squirmy pig more than the usual highly portable cat. Still, I like drawing them, and seeing them on the street.

Leaping Car

This is fun. Call it part of my Blue Period. Easy to add little colours here and there, and underneath. Unlike many people I know, I like painting and drawing machines, though don’t have a fondness for the ruler. I fancy this gives them more personality. I like objects with personality, and strive to put that into my drawings.

L’Écho d’un Fleuve
By Jack Ruttan in montreal, ruttan's placeSpent a while shooting and editing videos of the annual L’Écho d’un Fleuve event, which happens in this neighbourhood every June. It’s a thrill to do, and wonderful to think one lives in a neighbourhood where such things take place. Hooray for artists and dancers and all. Not an easy life.
But it’s great to see a little of what people are doing. The first video, nothing much really happens. I commented a lot.
The second video has great dance in it.
The third has this glorious mistake I made, superimposing one track over another, so a dancer seems to be dancing with herself. I couldn’t have planned that, but wanted to keep it.
Hope these things stick around for a while, as a record of what was going on here, in the quaint old days of 2011.

F1 Confusion

Kind of tiring, the whole thing, so I took a pit stop in Dorchester Square, ate French Fries, and sketched the equestrian monument to the wildly popular Boer War.
