Saint Patrick’s Rapscallionry

By in sketches

Saint Patrick’s day has come and gone, but the parade is today. So, last night, they were getting ready the green food colouring for the beer at the Cock N’ Bull pub. And I was drawing mildly salacious scenes happening around me and my friends Rick and Marr. Rick inked these, or in the case […]

Above, a simple, quick cat, in wash. Below, an even simpler cat, on typing paper:

Beers and Drawings

By in sketches

More drawing from the other night, meeting with friends at the Cock N’ Bull bar. Rick Gagnon was there. Marr was there, too, but he didn’t stay long enough to draw anything. Still, Rick was able to ink things like this drawing above of mine of one of the servers. Below is my drawing, embellished […]

Rabbit Rider

By in sketches, watercolour

This warrior character fears his masculinity is being compromised by his having to ride a giant quarter-rabbit. But the villagers will probably be as terrified as ever. He should have and painted frightening runes on the sides of his mount, and tied victims’ skulls to the saddle, in order to increase the menacing effect.

Creative License

By in sketches

Here’s something fun. This caricature I did of former Prime Minister, the late John Diefenbaker, is going into an upcoming political documentary. Rather than just downloading it and using it, they were nice enough to ask, and we negotiated a fee. That’s classy, and it’s nice to think of something of yours sticking around, maybe […]

Friday Fun

By in sketches

Loads of graphical play last night with friends at the Cock N’ Bull Bar. Rick and Marr were also doing crosswords, but those are much less interesting to look at. Above is my interpretation of some pool-playing characters, with a few lines and patches of black added by Rick. Below is Rick’s more graphical version […]

Another Knight

By in sketches

Looking at my darned “Lord of the Rings” DVDs again. I find the documentaries and the sketch galleries more interesting than the films! Afraid things are going to look a little warlike here for the next while, because of some projects I’m working on. I don’t love war, but like drawing the accoutrements.

Military Footing

By in sketches, watercolour

The guy above looks pretty formidable. Might be doing some military-themed things in the next while. But most of what there is to do at the moment, is wait for some things to come through. Below, some more characters, including, up top, the late Montreal artist Betty Goodwin.

Solaris Couple

By in sketches, watercolour

These are a pair of characters from the beginning of Tarkovsky’s Solaris, which I am watching in the Criterion edition, graciously leant to me by my sketching friend Rick. I think they’re his production manager and co-writer, which he put into his film because they were lucky for him, and also close at hand. The […]

Pool Player

By in sketches, watercolour

As promised, here’s the hot pool player that Rick beat the other night. I think she also beat the other guy, or at least he stopped playing as well as he had against Rick, for whatever reason. This is drawn just from memory. She maybe didn’t quite look so much like Morticia of the Addams […]
