Nonce Sketch

By in men, sketches, women

tough-guy-gothy-woman

Drew this in bed last night, after a hard day/busy night. Going to relax today. I’m still in this clipped mode of writing after doing too much twitter. Obviously I have to get out more. Feel as if I’m sending out telegrams. ….stop ….

Anyhow, I think I rocked the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on the name for the image on flickr, but I don’t really care that much. A drawing I did called “simple cat” gets plenty of hits, it seems. Which has nothing to do with its quality.

Tonight’s Efforts

Painting more stuff tonight, after working hard. Tough days, actually, in various ways, though things aren’t bad. Getting stuff going, making decisions, dealing with things. Hope it all works out! It is February, though.

One thing is from a photo, the other an elaboration of a quick sketch I made.

Abandoned Building

Painted this today, from a friend’s photo of a building (I think) near Turcot Yards. Should do a lot more of these sorts of things.

I’m getting back into my watercolour mode. Sometimes just splashing paint around works. At least it’s fun. Trying not so be so finicky, but not slapdash! Tricky rope to walk.

Fillin’ in pages

By in men, sketches, women

friday1

This is my black and white book, which doesn’t take colour all that well (except when it’s all I’ve got!). Still, it’s fun to draw in black and white with the brush pen, and various roller pens. Not as elite as the dip pen, however. But still pleasant to scratch back and forth, making those crosshatches.

friday-3

The people on top are metro (“subway” to some) people. Inked a little bit. Here are some other faces in the crowd, in my blue pen, which was all I had at the time:

metro-4

I have no idea what people would think, being drawn like that. But people’s faces are so beautiful and sad, under the bright lights. Still hard to draw there, because of the bumping of the train.

Some day, if I get the urge, I’m going to ride the train all day, drawing faces. Might get attacked, or booted off by security.

January Montreal Comic Jam

By in sketches

Something a little different. JM Ken Niimura shows off his sketchbook (actually, divided among 5 artists) at last night’s Montreal Comic Jam. Rick Gagnon is there in the background.

You can follow along, and discover these artists’ websites. Thanks to JM they are (in order):

Women in Bathing Suits, etc.

By in sketches, watercolour, women

bathing-suit-women

I’ve not been drawing tons. Trying to settle back into things, and relax. Cartoonists on Twitter are helping me do this, mainly through examples of their work. The figure in blue is mainly copied from a Love and Rockets comic panel. I think i like getting more into cartoony oddness, but enjoy trying to make things real, or at least colourful.

Might stray away from the strident oranges and reds for flesh tones. Below is another woman, because I was watching those Lord of the Rings DVDs again. Or at least turning the commentaries on, while I struggle with Illustrator among other things.

swordgirl

At least this post’s title might get some traffic via search engines. I can’t really tell which post is most popular, but the one that shows up most often in the stats is called “Simple Cats.” So, if I were interested in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), that’s where I would go.

The Apparition of These Faces in the Crowd…
